Tony Brodzeller's S281-SC #99-0008 ~ May 2004

This month we feature Tony Brodzeller's S281-SC Speedster, number 99-0008. The story of this special car is best told by the owner, so please enjoy, as we let Tony tell us about it in his own words. - The Saleen Club of America

My uncle owned a Ford Dealership (the only SVT & SALEEN dealer in Wisconsin) and let me work around the shop as I was growing up.  I was first exposed to SALEEN’s in 1987.  I immediately began following the cars – race teams/reports, magazine articles, advertisements, car shows, etc.  I knew that one day I would have a SALEEN…little did I know I would “start” with such a great car.

I am the second owner of 1999-#008 (#8 of 273 built) and it was purchased from a SALEEN, Inc. employee (Bill Talley, one of SALEEN’s head engineers).  When I heard of 99-08 being for sale, I jumped at the chance to own such a unique piece of SALEEN history.  

99-08 is 1 of 1, being the only 1999 built with its particular color & option combination.  It includes almost every option available in 1999.  Factory supercharger, 13” premium (Alcon) brakes, twin gauge pod (boost and intercooler temp), 3.08 gears, 18x10 premium tire upgrade, SALEEN/RECARO Leather sport seating, Carbon Fiber interior accent package (rare option - interior trim pieces, dash cluster, MOMO shift knob, and the outside mirrors), and SALEEN Floor mats.  The only 2 options missing are the lightweight hood and “maxgrip” differential.

The car is 100% Stock as delivered from SALEEN.  My goal is to help preserve a unique piece of SALEEN history by keeping the car “concourse” correct.

Although 99-08 has “higher” miles (purchased with 43,000 – now at 51,000.  Billy used this car to commute from San Diego to Irvine CA on a daily basis.), it certainly doesn’t show it!  The car is straight as an arrow and does not have a single door-ding or scratch.  The front end does have a fair amount of rock-chips and there is some “paint wear” inside the fender wells.  Most people that see this car can’t believe it has over 50,000 miles.  SALEEN fitted this car with 3.08 gears, which is also unique.  Most people question the gearing on the car – but with the blower, it pulls strong and has plenty of top-end power!

I LOVE driving this car.  Steve Saleen designed and built these cars to be driven.  It has never let me down – the power, handling, styling, history, etc. are just unbeatable.  I am very committed to staying active with car shows, cruises and other events to help promote the SALEEN name.
