Saleen Club of America
Featured Car of the Month
Ken McDowell's Hatchback
1985 #07 ~ March 2006
This month we feature the first 1985 Saleen built owned by Ken McDowell. 1985 was the first full year of Saleen production following a 3 car effort in 1984. The early 1985 Saleens were built in Petaluma, CA as were the '84s, and changed as production evolved. Car #07, produced in September of 1985, has many special features such as the "Big Wing" which is a full 2" taller than those produced later on in the model year. It also does not feature a "0" on the bumper where it is numbered, and simply says "7" behind the clear headlight cover. Ken's '85 has the 3 piece front air dam as seen on the '84 cars, and also has the "hand cut" decals which were soon changed over due to the amount of effort and time it took to label the cars in the early days. Inside you will find a grey interior and a Momo Corse steering wheel, and an early set of Saleen floor mats. Ken does not bring out 85-07 very often, but those who came to the 2005 Saleen Club of America National Show were treated to seeing it on display side by side with two of the three 1984 Saleens for some easy comparisons. Enjoy!
