“Faster,
faster, faster…..BRAKE!”
“Straight, hold it, hold
it…turn, turn, TURN NOW!”
shouted my instructor.
Well, that pretty much sums up
my first few laps of driving at
an open track event.
Now to the beginning…Saleen
partnered with SVTOA to offer a
driving opportunity during an
SVTOA open track weekend at
Summit Point Motorsports Park in
West Virginia. Saleen had
invited owners and dealership
personnel in the Northeast
region to take part in the
event. Total participation was
30, with 12 owners and 18 staff
members from Saleen
dealerships.
Saleen
provided 5 vehicles to drive,
two S331 trucks, two S281 S/C
coupes (auto & 5spd) and a 5spd
H281 coupe. One owner drove his
PJ Saleen down from New York to
get some track time. Also on
display were two other S281s
(coupe and convertible ) and one
H281 coupe.
The event was held on Summit
Point’s new Shenandoah Circuit,
which is an 18 turn, 2.2 mile
long track. The highlight is a
dimensional replica of a “Der
Nurburgring” style 20 degree
banked turn, It’s an amazing
sensation to come flying off the
front “Bridge Straight” and dive
down in the banking.
Adding to the fun, the folks
from Performance Autosports in
Richmond brought a large group
of cars including four Fox
Saleen R models and even one
Ranger sports racing truck.
It was an amazing site to watch
and hear this old Saleen racing
iron fly around the track.
Jeff Clark, Saleen’s Northeast
Region Manager ran the Saleen
activities, ensuring everyone
got a chance to drive a new
Saleen. Also, Mitchell Gadd,
Vice President of Sales, was
there representing the
corporation offices. They
stated that Saleen is committed
to offering more driving events
like this for Saleen owners and
we hope to make this a regional
event for SCOA, Mid-Atlantic
next year. Keeping watching
