SCOA BRAKE GUIDE  2005-newer

84-93 Brakes   94-04 Brakes  05+ Brakes

2005 and newer Saleen Brake Guide

The standard Ford brake system was used on most cars. However there were a several optional systems used. For 2005, the optional brakes were 14" Brembos. For 2006 & later, the optional brakes were manufactured for Saleen by Stoptech. Brake upgrade are front only - you'll have to go aftermarket for rear upgrades.

Standard and optional equipment does vary by year and model. For instance, the 07/08 Supercharged cars come with the 14" brake option, while Extreme models include 15" brakes as standard. In addition, there are other aftermarket and Ford-based upgrades possible, including adapting GT500 brakes.

2005 Brembo 14"

The optional 14" brake package used on the 2005 Saleen is made by Brembo, and uses the same parts as the Ford GT super car (not Mustang GT). This brake system was also optional on certain models of the Subaru WRX, EVO, and Volvo "R" model.

Replacement brake pads numbers are:

Hawk HB453

Pagid E2487

Porterfield AP1001

Raybestos R1001

Stoptech 14"

Slotted vented rotors and ST-40 4-piston calipers are provided as part of the 2006 & later 14" Stoptech upgrade. Newer SC'd cars and the Parnelli Jones Edition include these as standard equipment.

The StopTech ST-40 caliper is designed to use a pad from various Porsche models including the 944 Turbo, 1991-1994 911 series, 1992 968 and 1986-1991 928. The FMSI number for the pad used in the StopTech ST-40 caliper is D372.Over the years, Porsche has consolidated certain pads with slightly different backing plate shapes. Though these pads that Porsche consolidated will all fit in a Porsche caliper, they will NOT all work in the ST-40 due to the tighter tolerances of our bridge and pad retaining system. Strange as it may seem, the only place you can't get a pad for the ST-40 caliper is from a Porsche dealer. Other FMSI numbers used for similar pads are D447 and D609. While this reference may work with some pad suppliers, only a D372 pad is assured of fitting the StopTech ST-40 caliper.

Here is a list of pads that will fit the ST40 caliper (X denotes pad compound):

Axxis: DB439
EBC: DPX767 (uses D447 as FMSI cross reference)
Ferodo Race Pads: FCP560
Ferodo Street Pads: FDB560

Hawk HPS: HB141F.650
Hawk Performance Ceramic: HB141Z.650
Mintex: MDB1456
Pagid: U1204
Performance Friction: 0447.XX.17.44
Porterfield: APS-4
Raybestos Race Pad: R609

SBA: 3041.X.X

Stoptech: 63-xxx-0372

Note the numbers above represent the SHAPE of the pad, NOT the compound. You will need to check with each individual manufacturer for the complete p/n of a certain compound, but the numbers above will be part of each. The letter "X" represents the portion of the number you''ll need to fill in for the compound.

If you have questions about Stoptech pads, or want a pad from a different manufacturer not listed, you can contact them at sales@stoptech.com.

There have been numerous complaints about squeaky operation with the 14" Stoptech brake option. My research has found a couple different fixes for the problem. Stoptech currently recommends using "AXXIS Deluxe Advanced Street Pads" (formerly called Deluxe Plus) - a low dust pad that is quiet and rotor friendly, yet has enough fade resistance for performance cars.

Saleen has also used a couple different fixes for the squeaky brake problem. The one-piece rotors with a silver finish on the center have previously been replaced with a rotor with a black center. Recently, they have stopped changing rotors,  and are instead changing pads and shims. It has been recommended to rebed pads as well - wash off the brake dust on your rotor and calipers and go do a 5-6 hard braking sessions without coming to a complete stop to rebed your brakes.

Slotted vented 2-piece rotors and ST-60 6-piston calipers are provided as part of the 15" Stoptech upgrade found on the Extreme models.
