SCOA SHIFT KNOB IDENTIFICATION GUIDE 1984-2005 and up

One of the more confusing items for the Saleen owner / restorer is the Shift Knob. Every manual transmission Saleen produced has a non-Ford shift knob. The early (especially 86-88) models seem to be the most confusing, possibly due to supply problems and/or running changes.  Saleen is a small-volume manufacturer, and had to use whatever was available at times, without concerns about a knob being exactly the same as the next car built.

Information presented below was compiled by members of the SCOATALK Forum. Here's what we've been able to sort out.

Used on 1984 - 1985 models, as well as early 1986 models:

Note: this knob is currently available NOS from Performance Parts Inc.

Used on some 1986 - 1987 models (metal / foil medallion) :

Note: As compared to the later 89-93 medallion, the silver does not have the glittery look, the lines for the shift pattern are different, there is a silver outline on the red R, and the stitching is different on the knob itself.
